“CAST FOR ETERNITY: ANCIENT RITUAL BRONZES FROM THE SHANGHAI MUSEUM,” The Clark

Cast for Eternity Ancient Ritual Bronzes is drawn from the Shanghai Museum’s collection of bronze vessels and bells dating from the late Xia through the Western Han dynasties. The exhibition was designed by Annabelle Selldorf for the first installation in the West Pavilion of The Clark’s new Visitor Center.

The exhibition is enclosed by a scrim which echoes the rhythm and proportion of the building’s glass and steel façade. The scrim creates a clearly defined exhibition space and protects objects from direct sunlight and the glare of a reflecting pool outside.

The 32 objects are arranged chronologically and displayed in custom-designed vitrines painted in a deep bronze hue. Vitrines interiors are fitted with preservation controls for temperature and pressure and covered in archival fabric.
