The Frick Collection announced a March 18th opening date for Frick Madison. Selldorf Architects collaborated with the Frick’s curatorial team and their long-time exhibition designer Stephen Saitas on this unique opportunity to view highlights from the collection chronologically by region as opposed to the customary domestic presentation style seen in the East 70th Street location.

Hauser & Wirth announced today that its new building at 542 West 22nd Street, designed by Selldorf Architects, will open on October 6. This 36,000 square foot, 5-story gallery is Hauser & Wirth’s first purpose-built, ground-up building. Selldorf Architects has collaborated with Hauser & Wirth on its spaces internationally since the founding of the gallery in 1992. As with all of Selldorf’s previous designs for Hauser & Wirth’s galleries, the goal is to create strong, well-proportioned spaces that place art at the forefront of the visitor’s experience. Here, the ground floor and second floor spaces that front the street feature 16-foot and 12-foot tall glass doors that completely fold away, opening the façade up to further engage the public with the art on view.

We are pleased to announce our selection as architects for the Shaker Museum’s new permanent facility in downtown Chatham, New York. The project involves the adaptive reuse and expansion of a historic building to exhibit the museum’s collection and provide extensive community programming. Known for their simple yet highly functional objects, the Shakers’ values of inclusion, equality, and innovation could not be more relevant today.

Liz, our 14th Street Corridor mixed-use project, has won a 2020 AIA|DC Washingtonian Residential Design Award for Multifamily Housing. 

The May 2020 issue of Wallpaper* features a 16-page headline article about the new Selldorf-designed ground-up gallery for Hauser & Wirth in West Chelsea, scheduled to open this fall. The limited-edition cover features a photograph from the building’s fifth floor public gallery taken by Annabelle during a recent site visit, and a quote from her: “Architecture remains abstract and lives only in one’s head until such time as things are physically evident.”

We are delighted to announce that Partner Sara Lopergolo has been elevated to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows. This is an honor awarded to AIA members who have made significant contributions to the architecture profession. The program was developed to elevate those architects who have achieved a standard of excellence in the profession and made a significant contribution to architecture and society on a national level.  Only 3 percent of AIA members have this distinction.

Annabelle Selldorf is one of the Design Co-Chairs of this year’s Winter Show, the leading art, antiques, and design fair in America, featuring over 70 of the world’s top experts in the fine and decorative arts. Held at the historic Park Avenue Armory in New York City, the fair highlights a dynamic mix of works dating from ancient times through the present day and maintains the highest standards of quality in the art market.

Annabelle Selldorf gave a Keynote Lecture to the audience of Women in Design 2020+, an international Conference and Exhibition curated by the HECAR Foundation, which aims to share stories of women around the world who have excelled in the field of architecture, construction, and other related design fields.

Luma Arles and 10 Bond Street have received Design Awards from AIA New York State Chapter.  Luma Arles, a contemporary art center in Arles, France, was given an Award of Merit in the Adaptive Reuse/Historic Preservation category. 10 Bond Street, a 34,000 sf building in New York’s NoHo neighborhood, was given an Award of Citation in the Residential Multi Family, Multiple Dwellings category. The magazine features the living room of our Maupin-Tonchi Osborne Apartment, a project that illustrates harmony between the client’s vintage furniture collection, modern artwork, and new Vica furniture including the 90-degree table, custom side chairs, and the wonderful chandelier created in collaboration with Seguso.
