Construction Update Sunset Park Material Recovery Facility

Selldorf Architects, October 29, 2011

Construction is underway on the Sunset Park Material Recovery Facility in Brooklyn. When complete this waterfront facility will process the majority of New York City’s metal, glass, and plastic recyclables, and will showcase some exciting sustainable design features such as a 100 kilowatt wind turbine and the largest application of solar panels in the City.

Construction on the project began in January of 2011 and is expected to finish in the fall of 2012. To date significant work has been completed on the foundation walls for the Bale Storage Building, and the footprints have been cleared for the Tipping Building and the Administration and Visitor Center. Pilings for the site are in place, and construction of the finger pier which supports the Tipping Building is ongoing. Click here for more images and information.
