Selldorf Architects, July 22, 2014

The Clark Art Institute in Williamstown reopened to the public on July 4th. Selldorf Architects designed the renovation of the Museum which included a total refresh of the building with reconfigured galleries, updated lighting and mechanical systems, new finishes and decorative arts vitrines and gallery furniture. The $145m overall campus expansion includes a new Visitor Center designed by Tadao Ando with a one-acre reflecting pool and new landscaping by Reed Hilderbrand. Gensler was the Executive Architect for the entire project. Selldorf is also renovating the Manton Research Center which will be completed in Spring 2015.

Writing in the New York Times on July 10, 2014, Roberta Smith praised the expansion project as a place “where looking at art is the first order of business” and she said that “the exemplary redo by Selldorf Architects makes the original buildings and collections shine.”  Read the full review here.
