We are so pleased that the Sims Sunset Park Material Recovery Facility 100kW wind turbine is up and spinning on the Brooklyn waterfront. More than 160 feet tall, this state-of-the-art wind turbine will supply approximately 4% of the energy consumed by the Material Recovery Facility. Combined with one of the largest solar panel arrays in the city, the recycling facility will now produce approximately 20% of its electricity requirements from renewable sources. The New York Times piece on New York City’s first commercial-scale wind turbine can be found here.
